Anzac, a baby Ringtail Possum, peeks out from its makeshift "pouch" during a photocall at Taronga Zoo in Sydney September 1, 2005. A baby boom coupled with warm weather prompted the zoo to show off out a selection of baby animals, some who are being hand reared and requiring round-the-clock care.
The online video of a mysterious, hairless creature reportedly found in Shenzhen, China has been making ripples across the Internet. The origin of the weird-looking creature has not been identified yet and the authorities have no clue about it.
The unidentified beast was caught swimming in the Shenzhen Reservoir in China’s Sand Bay. The workers from the Department of Drainage captured the creature from the reservoir and put it in a cage.
The creature reportedly looks nothing like an animal that belongs to Earth. However, it has teeth capable of tearing apart a wire mesh cage. The viral YouTube video shows the animal trying to escape the cage by breaking apart the wire mesh using its claws.
The weird-looking organism has long claws and pig-like snout, in addition to its sharp teeth. However, no one has been able to identify the creature so far and veterinarians have not examined the animal or commented on it.
The creature, that looks like a hairless possum or a bear, is being regarded as a mythical “water ghost.” According to the Chinese folklore, “Shui gui” or water ghosts refer to the spirit of the people who drowned in the past. The folklore continues to explain how the water ghosts roam in the place where they died and target the people underwater to take possession of their bodies when they drown.
Meanwhile, Animal Asia's director, David Neal, said that the animal “looks like a bear cub, which is suffering from any medical condition which has caused it to lose all of its fur.” While other experts suggest that the animal must have resulted due to a genetic mutation caused by the toxicity in the Chinese rivers and streams, comments from other curious spectators suggest that the creature must be a human baby that got deformed because of the water's pollutants.
